Cashmere comes from the soft undercoat of cashmere goats. Its appeal is an exceptional softness-to-warmth ratio: light, yet warmer than wool. But cashmere quality varies enormously with fiber length and fineness. Longer, finer fibers make softer, more durable, less-pilling yarn, and cost far more. Two "100% cashmere" sweaters can differ dramatically in quality and price because of grade.
